Talk Title: A GPS of Things

David J. Bruemmer
CEO and Founder of W8less

Abstract:

For the benefits of robotics and autonomy to scale, we must improve the underlying positioning and connectivity framework and shift the focus from individual intelligence to collaborative intelligence. The problems we care about the most are not textual, but require intelligence to be situated and embodied in the real world. Safety, efficiency and security cannot be accomplished at scale without accurate positioning and reliable connectivity. The future we want depends on peer to peer interactions with centimeter accuracy and low latency communications. The talk includes use cases from deploying robotics and positioning at scale within telecom, automotive, military, mining and logistics.

Brief Bio:

Mr. Bruemmer is the CEO and founder of W8less. Over twenty five years, Mr. Bruemmer has pioneered the use of autonomy for more than 50 kinds of vehicles –- humanoids, hand-sized throw bots, drones, airplanes, tanks, cars, buses, trucks, forklifts, bomb disposal robots, delivery robots and tugs. He has led over $100MM in product development, transitioning basic research to commercial success in energy, defense, transportation, mining and commercial applications. He started at DARPA with early humanoids, self-driving cars and the first 100 robot swarm. He transitioned the best tech to the DOE, building a large team and inventing the AI for 25 different life-saving robots. He founded and grew a pioneering robotics company to over 50 employees before it was acquired. His latest company invented 5G-enabled micro-positioning and won contracts with BHP for use in mining and with T-Mobile for use with drones and robots. He has a long history forging collaborations between academia and industry that drive innovation and achieve large-scale commercial and societal impact.
